I am home.

I am sorry that I have not written in so long. But I am at my sister's house with my nephew and I am having a blast. I had a wonderful 10 months in Guatemala. It was hard to say goodbye but I am glad to be home. I will not be going back next year. If anyone would like to go and teach English to the kids let me know and I will get you the contact information for the Spaughs.
God bless and thank you all for your prayers and support.

My Final days in guatemala.

We are going to Antigua today to do some final shopping and get some things that I have not been able to get for family and friends at home.
I can hardly believe that this is basically my last day in Guatemala. We will be at the airport at 6:15 in the morning and I will leave at about 12:45 to go home.
Yesterday in Patzún it was a little hard to say good bye. I was not the only one crying. Please pray for the church and school. Pray for the children to continue to go to church and school. Pray for the leaders of the church and school that they will have wisdom and do what the Lord wants and not what they think is best.
Thank you for all of your support this year.
Dios bendiga a todos ustedes.
God bless all of you.

My final days in Patzún.

Yesterday we had a big party at church. I heard several different things that the party could be for but no one said that they knew what it was really. I heard that it was a birthday party for aunt Cindy or a party to welcome the new deacons and elders or a party to say good bye to me.
Boy was I surprised when the party was for all of the above.
We had a great time and I was able to get several family pictures with kids from the school and church. I will be very sad to leave Patzún for the last time tomorrow. Lord willing I will have the opportunity to come back and visit.
Thank you all for your prayers and I will see you soon. I will leave Guatemala city at 12:45 my time and fly to Atlanta about 8:48pm their time and then fly into the Huntsville Airport Thursday night around 8:44 Huntsville time. Please pray for a safe and uneventful flight.

God bless you all.

October 8, 2010

School ended today.
I am not sure if that makes me happy or sad. I am happy that I will be going home but sad that I will be leaving all of my friends and all of the children here. I will miss them all. I hope that I will be able to come back and visit sometime. My time here has been a learning experience and a blessing. I will not forget this time.
Thank you to the Spaughs for giving me this opportunity and to all of my friends and family that prayed for and supported me while I have been here.
I am going home on Thursday the 14th of October. I can hardly believe how fast my time here has gone by.

October 6, 2010

Final day of school is Friday.
That means that I have been giving test this week. Tuesday I gave four grades their tests in two hours. On a normal test day each class would have been given an hour each to complete the test. Preschool would have been given at least an hour because I do each child individually because they can not read. This week with the help of Aunt Cindy we did nine children in about 30 minutes. This week has been crazy and it is just beginning. Spaughs left just a few minutes ago to drive to the capital they have a couple staying at their house this week starting tomorrow and ending on Tuesday. Then on Thursday Lord willing they will be leaving for the states and so will I. Please pray for safety and health for all of us this week.
I look forward to seeing all of you again but I do not look forward to leaving all of my friends here. I told a family tonight that I am leaving in one week the first thing that they asked was when are you coming back? I will miss them all and I think and hope that they will miss me too.

September 29, 2010

I can hardly believe that the week went by so quickly. Mom and dad and Jonathan and Josiah flew in Tuesday the 21st and stayed until yesterday the 28th. We had a great time. We went to Panajachel and to Antigua. We went to the market here in Patzún on Sunday and bought some fruit. And last Thursday we went to the market in Antigua and did some shopping for souvenirs.
They are home safely!

Their first Guatemalan meal was at a Pollo Comperro (same family as KFC).

On Wednesday mom went to all of my classes and daddy and the boys went to some of them. They even played the review game with the kids.

This is the market in Panajachel.
I am not sure what Josiah was looking at but it must have been interesting.

Eating with Domingo and his family. The first real Guatemalan meal.
Beans and cheese a small piece of meat and coffee.

The radio station in Patzún.

The Game!

I am leaving for our first game in about 15 minutes. I was told last night that this game is a practice game and that next Saturday is the first real game. I hope that we do well and do not freeze.

First Game!

Saturday is our first Basketball game. We have to be at the court at 6:00am Saturday.

Basketball!

Some of you know that I was recruited by our church for the basketball team. Well I need your prayers in 3 days we have had 7 and a half hours of practice and I can hardly move. I am so sore that it is not funny. Please pray for our team that all of the hours of practice we are putting in will be worth it. God bless each of you.

Time is flying!

I can hardly believe that in just 21 short days my family will be here for one whole week.
I have to admit that I am not just sitting and waiting for them to get here. Yesterday was a very busy day. My Sunday started at 6:00am with Basketball practice. Then I taught an English class then I spent three hours helping decorate the church for the talent night at the church. Each of the youth demonstrated their talent some sang songs and others did other things. Then we had a man give his testimony I have never heard anything like it. His testimony made me think of how blessed I am to have the family that I have and that I grew up going to church and hearing that God loves me. After the service each of the girls in the youth group sold some kind of food that they had made. It was a great day. Today I taught English and I was even able to teach ALL of the grades. Between band and gymnastics I have not had all of the kids in all of the classes for several weeks. God bless you all.

Hope that they have fun while they are here.

August 18, 2010

Yesterday was a big day for me. I Went to the ladies meeting and was asked to lead the music and prayer time. I do not know how well I did but we sang some songs and had a prayer time and then a devotional by one of the other ladies. I hope that they all could understand my Spanish.
Please pray for the ladies. Only a few ladies come to the meetings and I think that they are getting discouraged. Pray that God will bring more ladies. Also pray for the health of everyone in the group most of the ladies have some kind of sickness. But they still keep on going. Pray for strength and encouragement.

Sunday, August 15, 2010

The Countdown has started.

I have started the countdown. Mom dad and the boys will be here in 37 days. I can't wait. I am not sure what all we will do when they get here but I am sure that we will have fun simply because we are together. I wish that the rest of you could come visit also. I miss you all and will see you in November. God bless and keep you in his service.

We have purchased the tickets! My family really is coming to Guatemala. I never dreamed that they would actually get to come but they are and I am so excited.

We are having the passports expedited so that they will be back in time for the flight. Please pray that the passports can be processed quickly and without any problems.

What have you been doing?

Did you ask what I have been doing? Well lets see..... Monday and Tuesday I taught English in the school. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I started helping prepare a building for a cement roof. I started work at 7:30am and worked until 10:30am had a 10 to 15 minute break for a snack and then went back to work until noon had an hour for lunch and then worked until 6:30pm or 7:00pm then cooked supper and went to bed. Friday we finished around 4:00pm. Today my day started at 5:15am. I got up washed some clothes (in the pila not in a machine) and then went strait to work carrying cement for the roof. Today we finished around 10:30. I learned a lot of new Spanish words this week. I hope that someday I will need them again.

The first picture is of the foam panel. The second is where it goes and the third is a closer picture of my work. I wired the panel to the rebar.

Happy Birthday MOM!!!

I love you and wish that I could be there.
Hope that you have a great day.

July 17, 2010

Another week is coming to an end and a new one is about to start.
The children will be taking test again this coming week so please pray for them.

I want to thank each one of you for the part that you have played in my ministry here in Patzún. I would not have been able to come if it had not been for each of you and your support and prayers.
This year has been a time in my life that I will never forget. I have made many new friends and learned a new language. I can honestly say that this year has changed the way that I look and missionaries and people from other countries.

July 13, 2010

Well I have finished two more days of teaching. I was thrilled yesterday when I went into the classes and the children were so happy to see me. They all wanted to give me a hug. It is a wonderful feeling to know that you are missed and that people want you around. We did some reading in the classes today and the children were able to read with very little help.

Back in Patzún!!

Thank you to all of you who were praying for my trip home. I had an awesome time. I was able to see all but two of my brothers. My mom and one of my younger brothers went to GA to see my sister and her husband and son. We had a great time and Cameron is that cutest little guy I have ever seen.

I flew back yesterday and will be teaching today and tomorrow.
I am about to freeze though, coming from weather in the 90 and going to a rainy high 50 low 60 is a big change and I am cold. The six day forecast says that 67 is our high for the week.
Thank you again for you prayers. I will be sending out a prayer letter soon. with more information. Love you all and God bless.

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Great news!!!!

I have been enjoying my time here with my family. We have worked in the garden and mowed grass and all kinds of things.
I think the best part of my trip so far was this morning when we talked to my sister and she said that they will be coming home next week. Please pray for everything to go smoothly and for a safe flight home.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Today is the day!

I will be leaving Guatemala City in just a few hours to begin the flight home.
I am looking forward to being with my family and working on the farm again.
I do not get to do much outside work here and I am looking forward to it. Although I have been told that it is very hot in Alabama right now not nice like we have it here. I think that we actually got in the low 70s yesterday.
See you soon!

This is what I see from the church parking lot.

Time flies when you are having fun!

The time has been flying past. I can hardly believe that in ten days I will have been away from home for six full months. There are some days that I feel like I have not seen my family in forever and then there are other days that I fell like I left home yesterday.
Yesterday in church they prayed that I would have a safe trip and come back quickly. After church I had a lot of people come and ask when I was coming back and tell me that they did not want me to go. It made me feel very wanted and like I will be missed as much as I will miss the people here.
I thank God for all of my friends and family here. But I am glad that I will be going home for a visit in 56 hours and 1 minute.
Thank you for your prayers and support. I will see you soon.

Sunday, June 20, 2010

Packed and Ready!!!!

74 hours and 47 minutes until I land in Atlanta GA.
Then just long enough for me to get through the gate and find my family. Then begins ten days of FAMILY and fun.
I just wish that my sister and her husband and son were going to be home.
Praise God that He is in control and knows everything.

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

June 3, 2010

I am sure that most of you have heard about everything that has been happening here in Guatemala. So I would like to take a minute and thank you for your prayers. I can honestly say that I did not know how bad everything was until I talked to my dad and he asked if I was okay and how much damage we got. Praise the Lord the only thing that we got here in Patzún was rain and lots of it. We got about eight inches in one night and it rained for several days.

There was a group here during the storm and when they tried to leave they had to take a bus because the vans that they came in could not make it back to the capital. The roads were in to bad of shape. Monday when uncle Ken and aunt Cindy went to the capital they had to drive an hour out of the way to get to the capital.

One of the scary things is that some of the towns that have been talked about in the news I have been to. I know people that live there. I read on one web site that Chimaltenango is one of the worst places. We dive through Chimaltenango to get to the capital. I do not know if what they say is true or not but it is scary that we could have been driving through that town when all of this happened. Again PRAISE THE LORD FOR HIS PROTECTION. And thank you for your prayers. We are fine and do not have any damage here in Patzún.

This is me on the volcano that erupted.

Again thank you for your prayers and concerns.

May 27-30, 2010

The Group got here safely. We had 27 people at supper Thursday night.
Friday started our work time with the group. We had planned a lot of work outside but God had other plans for us. It rained almost the whole time that the group was here. The group was able to dig a ditch for a water line for the store building. We also had the group put in some windows and do a lot of painting. Thank you to everyone in the group for all the work that you did here. The group had to take a buss to get back to the capital because the roads are so bad after three days of rain. Please pray that the roads get repaired quickly.

May 27, 2010

Uncle Ken went to the Capital this morning to get the group. We will have 27 or 28 people at supper tonight. Aunt Cindy and I stayed here in Patzún to get supper ready. We have most of it done we just have to put it in one dish and heat it up. We are having shepherds pie. I can't wait.
Please pray for us this weekend as we work. Pray for safety and that we will get more done then we think that we will be able to.
Please continue to pray for my sister and her husband they have all of their paper work in the states and in Columbia approved and they are only waiting to be told when they can fly to Columbia and get Cameron. Pray that they will be able to go and come back before June 23rd. I will be going home for a visit and I would love to meet Cameron while I am there.
Thank you and God bless you all.

May 25, 2010

May 25, 2010

The group will be here day after tomorrow. We still have to fix the bathrooms and get all of the materials for the projects that they will be working on while they are here. Uncle Ken and Aunt Cindy are in the capital picking up the rest of the things that we need for cooking and then they have a meeting this afternoon. Pray that we are able to get everything done before the group gets here that we need to.

May 25, 2010

Yesterday I gave some of the children the second bimester test for English. I will be giving the rest of the grades their test today. Pray for the children that they will all do very well. Pray for me as I grade the test and return them to the children.
Thank you for your prayers and God bless you all.

May 19, 2010

We came to the capital today. We have a group coming a week from tomorrow May 26. So we are hereto do some shopping and get the food that we need to feed them while they are here.
Pray for us and for the group that we will be able to do the things that God wants us to do while they are here. Pray that everyone will stay healthy and that we will all learn something while they are here.

May 17, 2010

May 16, 2010

Today we saw a parade. I am not sure what it was for but it was fun. It when right passed the church so we were able to go out and watch it. Here is a video of some of the parade. This video is not very good but you can see some of the horses they had doing tricks.

I just finished another wonderful day of teaching.
The children are great. I am trying to do a lot of teaching in 30 minutes so pray that the children will be able to understand and remember what they have been taught. We have another test coming the end of this month and they need to know what they have been taught.
These are some of my children. Aren't they great?

Thank you for your prayers. Pray that God will give me clear direction for what HE holds for next year.
God bless.

April 26-30, 2010

Last week I attended a missions conference at SETECA.
I met a lot of wonderful people from many different countries.

I met a man from Honduras.

I met some men from Mexico and a man form Uruguay
(the man on the far left in the grey is from Uruguay).

I met some people from Panama.

My room mate (in the green) was from Costa Rica.

I met a man from Nigeria (in the middle) and one of the main speakers.

I met a woman from EL Salvador.

I also met the president CAM International in Texas

And the man (the man right next to me) in charge of the mobilization office at CAM International Texas.

Most of all we all met with God. I do not think that anyone went home without hearing from the Lord. We all heard something different but we all heard something from the LORD.

April 24, 2010

I feel like I am back in school again. Since last Wednesday I have had nine and a half hours of Spanish lessons. I thank the Lord for My Spanish teacher in the states. I would be completely lost if she had not taken the time to teach me before I came. I know my alphabet and how to make syllables and we are working on the conjugation of verbs. We are also working on making sentences. Pray for me as I continue to study and work on my Spanish. I only have a few months left to learn.
Thank you for your prayers. God bless you all.

We are getting rain more and more. We have ad so much rain that the drive way was washing away and we had to work on it.

We built a speed bump to block the water form washing down the road. Yes we did it by hand. We talked about wishing we had a Bob Cat. No such luck.

Here are a few pictures of the event.

We all got involved.

Feliz cumpleaños Tio Ken!!!
Happy Birthday Uncle Ken!!!
The church had a surprise party for him. And it was a big surprise. We had a hard time not telling him because he was in the capital and did not really want to come back. But he did and was glad. There were a lot of people there that night. Aunt Cindy and Uncle Ken were seated at a table in the front of the church and all the people were seated in a half circle around them. We had a wonderful time.

April 17, 2010-Hard to believe but true.

I have been here for almost four whole months.
Some days I can't believe it and others it feels like I have been here forever.
Time goes so fast that it is hard to keep track of it.
With four of the ten months that I have the privilege of being here gone, I have had many thought about them.
Here are some of my thoughts.
Am I really doing what I am here for? Are the children really leaning?
When I leave will I have made a difference?
Will the children miss me as much as I will miss them?
Will the teachers want me to come back?
I could go on but I am sure that you do not want to here all that I am thinking, so I won't.
Please pray for me as I seek the will of God about what I am to do next year.
I have many thoughts on that also. I need the Lord to tell me what HE wants.

Continue to pray for my sister and her husband. They are still having paperwork problems. Matthew 21:22 Says Whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing ye shall receive.
We are asking that the Lord make it possible for Patrick and Mary Ann to bring Cameron home this month.
Thank you for praying with us.

April 12, 2010

This past weekend I attended the Guatemala CAM conference. The man that preached spoke on the grace of God and resting in Him.

We as humans have so many things that can keep us from resting. We have responsibilities, cell phones, emails, activities at church and other places. There are so many good things that can keep us from having the time to rest and spend with the Lord. It would be easy for us to not have the time to spend with the Lord. If we do not spend time with Him how can we be like Him? We do not all rest in the same way so find out what you need to do to rest and then take the time to rest.

While at the conference I met some wonderful people. My roommate is another intern who is here until the end of October. She is here working with a daycare in the capital. She is trying to make a sponsorship program for children that cannot afford to pay for their schooling.

Pray that the Lord will bless all of the missionaries in Guatemala and around the world. There are many people that are raising support to come serve in Guatemala pray that they will receive the support needed.

It seams that nothing good comes without a few problems. My sister and her husband are still working on the paper work for the adoption of Cameron. Please be in prayer with us that the Lord will speed up all of the processes that the papers have to go through and that they will have all of the papers completed before the end of April. Pray also that there will not be any more problems. Pray that God will give them peace as they go through all of these problems.

Thank you for your prayers.

Hello Praying Friend
This week all of the teachers had to turn in the grades for the first two months.
Aunt Cindy and I worked on them all day yesterday. Thank the Lord I was able to give them to the director this morning. All of the children passed. Although there are a few that just barely passed. Pray for them that they will study for the next test and they will get a higher grade on it.
Thank you for your prayers.

Buenos Días Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo.
Gracias por sus oración pro mi.
Good Day Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
Thank you for your prayers for me.
It is hard for me to believe that I have been here for 3 whole months. I will be honest I have had some days that I wished that I could go home. Not because I do not like it here, but because there are a lot of things happening at home this year that I am missing. I know that this is where that Lord wants me and because of that I would not trade my time here for anything. No one said that being a missionary was easy or that we would not miss our family and the things that happen at home. Sometimes I have to remind myself that Jesus left the most perfect place and the most wonderful father every. He came to a place that rejected him and put him to death. I thank the Lord that I am very loved and accepted here. I have many friends. There is one family that told me that while I am here they are my parents and brothers and sisters. So I now have four more sisters and two more brothers. And I am older than them all.
Anyway Everything is going very well here. We have had the whole week off from school because it is Holy week. Sunday is Easter and we are having a sunrise service. Then school starts again on Monday.
Please be in prayer for us as we are in the proses of renewing our visas. Uncle Ken and aunt Cindy need new passports also. Pray that they will get them quickly and without any problems.
Please continue to pray that my Spanish will continue to improve.
Continue to pray that my sister and her husband will get the paper work that they need back in the mail and they will be able to fly to Colombia on April 9th. Pray also that they will be able to see Cameron on April 13th as they are planing.
¡Dios Te Bendiga!
God Bless You!
Love in Christ your Sister Sarita.

Thank you for your prayers.
Please pray for the children this week. They have tests until Friday.
I gave my English test on Thursday. The children did not do as well as I had hoped. Pray that God will help me to teach in a way that the children can understand and then speak the words they learn clearly. Learning English is as hard for them as it is for me to learn Spanish. We need lot of practice and to hear the words over and over again.
We have been busy. We are helping one of the locale families make some bead bracelets and hair clips to sell. Believe it or not they say "Gators" on them, as in the FL Gators.
Please continue to pray for my sister and her husband as they are still waiting for one piece of paper before they can fly. Lord willing they will fly to Colombia April 9th and will see Cameron for the first time on the 13th. Their wedding anniversary.
Please pray that Gods will will be done.

My how time flies when you are having fun

or working hard.

I can hardly believe that is has been 1 month and 26 days since I left Alabama. I miss everyone very much. But the Lord is good and He is taking care of my every need. As much as I would love to be with my family and all of my friends I know that I am where God wants me. And that is the most important thing.

We had 2 more trimmers on Tuesday. They were not big, but we felt them. The first one was at about 5:00am and the second one was around 9:15am. I was teaching when the second one hit. The children did not like it very much but the teacher calmed them down and I went on teaching. I taught them the word earthquake. It was fun to take something that just happened and to add it to what I was teaching.

Please continue to pray for me as I am still trying to learn to speak Spanish. I can understand more then I can speak. Pray that God would help me as I study and practice.

A lot has happened since my last post. Both here and at home. Most of you know that I stayed with a Guatemalan family 2 weeks ago. Well to say the least the first day was the worst day I have ever had. But after that I had the most wonderful time possible. I would not trade the experience for anything in the world.
We have had a group here from Canada. They have been wonderful and have done more work than we thought they would. The spent the week putting wood burning cook stoves in to the homes of the local people. They put in 8 stoves. It takes a lot of heads to remember the order that everything goes together.

At home there has been a lot going on as well. I learned last week that My sister Mary Ann and her Husband Patrick have been called by the Colombian Government. And they will be adopting a 10 month old little boy Cameron David Mulvehill.

Please be in prayer that God will speed all of the paper work up and provide the money needed for the trip and adoption. This is Patrick and Mary Ann's web site they have all the updates and a place for donations please check it out. http://www.patnmary.net/

Thank you for your prayers. God bless.
